Task 9: Cultural policy What is the DCMS and what do they do? The DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport) “ helps to drive growth, enrich lives and promote Britain abroad.” [1]. The DCMS helps to protect the artistic and cultural heritage of the UK as well as aiding businesses an d communities in their development by promoting the UK as an ideal place for tourism. The DCMS gives a list of their priorities. Here they are; Growing the economy Connecting the UK Encouraging participation Sustaining excellence Promoting Britain Supporting British media Ensuring social responsibility DCMS would be able to support me and my business - through them, I would be able to apply for copyrights on all the designs that I produce. I would want to copyright my designs specifically rather than the physical works themselves so as to not deter clients from posting images of pieces that I have made that they chose to alter in some form.
